Earlier today we reported on the release of a new version of digital asset management software from ADAM in Belgium. Now comes word that Nuxeo, based in Paris, has released their own DAM software, based on their open-source ECM offering. What a coincidence! Two announcements in the same day from the same country! I mean, yes, I know Paris is in France—but France is simply a region of Belgium, n’est-ce pas?
Okay, the French are going to start slinging crêpes across the pond at me for such an insult. Mon Dieu! Where is your sense of humor? But now that I have your attention, readers, let’s take a look at what Nuxeo is doing. It’s actually pretty cool that Nuxeo already has the beta preview available for download (see link below), ready to run on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
BOSTON, Massachusetts—December 2, 2009—Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) company, announced today that it has released its new Digital Asset Management offering (Nuxeo DAM) for beta preview. Nuxeo DAM will be a featured product in Nuxeo’s booth at the Gilbane Conference this week in Boston.
Nuxeo DAM is a packaged application, based on the Nuxeo open source ECM platform, that addresses the complex and resource-intensive demands of managing the rich media assets of 21st century business. Designed to meet the creative and ever-changing needs of marketing and brand managers, Nuxeo’s digital asset management software opens up new opportunities for the creators, users and consumers of rich media to take control of their critical image, video or audio content.

Belgium-based developer ADAM Software announced today the release of ADAM 4.5, the latest version of its digital asset management enterprise platform. ADAM’s installed base includes leading brands such as Omnicom, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Britvic, Microsoft, LEGO, and McCann Erickson. The company’s press release describes some of the new features for ADAM’s development and integration partners:
New customization topics in the development guide: the provider model and RAD controls in ADAM not only speed up custom development, they also offer solid, documented components as a good starting point for your customizations. From the media engine provider framework, that let you choose your own media converter, up to custom rule actions and conditions: all those are now covered in the Development Guide.
Enhanced Maintenance: site specific maintenance management is now built-in, allowing you to further fine-tune where and when those large behind-the-scenes actions should be executed.
New native ADAM web controls: standard ASP.NET controls don’t always match with the highly dynamic nature of ADAM objects. The new Stateful Form View is capable of storing information about the objects it renders, resulting in a more accurate and faster web development.
Flexible classification security: ADAM already offered unlimited taxonomy and metadata features. Now ADAM 4.5 offers the ability to break the inheritance of classification security. This feature allows you to set up complex permission structures on taxonomy.
Enhanced full-text indexing: classification information is now full-text indexed.
Enhanced Processing of complex Adobe Illustrator files: ADAM 4.5 handles Illustrator files with links to other imported assets the same way as InDesign layouts. ADAM identifies the master document and auto creates links and previews for all files that are used in the composition.
Alfresco Software announced last week that they have included the OASIS Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) Version 1.0 in Alfresco Community 3.2 in order to allow developers to be a part of the public review process in the early stages of implementing the new specification. Below is the press release, which includes the link required to download the new version.
LONDON—November 23, 2009—Alfresco Software today announced that it has included the OASIS Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) Version 1.0 in Alfresco Community 3.2 to enable developers and organizations to participate in the public review process. The OASIS CMIS Technical Committee (TC) has recently approved CMIS Version 1.0 as a Committee Draft and announced the start of a two month public review period.
In order to support education and training on CMIS, Alfresco will also host the first CMIS virtual training session designed to explore the specification and share CMIS expertise on November 24.
The objective of the CMIS specification is to deliver a common REST or Web Services API that can be used to develop write-once, run-anywhere, next generation content and social applications. The CMIS specification is backed by vendors including Alfresco, Adobe Systems, EMC, IBM, Microsoft, OpenText, Oracle and SAP.
“Anyone who doubted that CMIS would become a real standard should think again. CMIS will have a profound impact on the Content Management industry. Now everyone can try CMIS for themselves on Alfresco and contribute to the public review process,” said John Newton, CTO, Alfresco Software.
As an OASIS TC member, Alfresco is able to offer an implementation of CMIS for developers who wish to participate in the public review process. The public review ends December 22, 2009. The OASIS TC has issued an open invitation to comment and strongly encourage feedback from potential users and developers.
CMIS 1.0 Public Review can be downloaded with Alfresco Community 3.2 at: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Download_Community_Edition.
